New spacious, quieter rooms opened June 8 to support growing families and patients who need extended monitoring before birth.
Renown Health is expanding capacity in its Labor & Delivery Unit at Renown Regional Medical Center by bringing additional private patient rooms back into service. Beginning Monday, June 8, Renown added four labor and delivery rooms and three antepartum rooms to its active patient census, increasing access to family-centered maternity care for patients across northern Nevada.
The additional rooms support Renown’s continued investment in women’s and children’s health as the region continues to grow and families seek access to high-quality maternity and newborn care close to home.
“By returning these rooms to active patient care, we are increasing access to maternity services and helping more families receive compassionate, high-quality care close to home,” said Chris Nicholas, CEO of Renown Regional Medical Center. “With expanded labor, delivery and antepartum capacity, along with Renown’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for premature babies and newborns who need a higher level of support, families can receive comprehensive maternity and newborn care in one location.”
Supporting Families During Labor & Delivery
The four additional labor and delivery rooms will allow Renown to care for more patients and families during one of life’s most meaningful moments. Each room is private, giving patients and their loved ones the space, comfort and privacy they need throughout labor, delivery and recovery.
Renown’s Labor & Delivery Unit combines advanced clinical care with a personalized experience for families welcoming a new baby. Families delivering at Renown benefit from all private patient rooms, newborn photography, celebratory desserts and thoughtful touches designed to make the birth experience feel personal and memorable.
“Expanding our Labor & Delivery capacity is an important investment in the full continuum of care for women, babies and families,” said Paige McCall, Vice President of Women’s and Children’s Services at Renown Health. “These additional private rooms allow us to better support patients through labor, delivery and antepartum care while maintaining the privacy, comfort and clinical excellence families expect from Renown.”
Expanding Antepartum Care for Patients Who Need More Support Before Birth
Antepartum care refers to care provided before birth for pregnant patients who need additional monitoring or support prior to delivery. This may include patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies, pregnancy complications or other medical needs that require a longer hospital stay before their baby arrives.
The three additional antepartum rooms will help Renown care for more patients who need extended monitoring before delivery. For the community, expanded antepartum capacity means more pregnant patients can receive ongoing hospital-based care close to home, with access to specialized maternity services and newborn care if their needs change.
Because antepartum patients may stay in the hospital for days or even weeks, private rooms are especially important. The antepartum rooms returning to service offer a quieter environment and more space for patients and their families during what can be an emotional and uncertain time.
“For antepartum patients, the hospital can become home for an extended period of time before delivery,” said Lora Redmon, Director of Nursing for Labor and Delivery at Renown Regional. “Having private, quieter rooms makes a meaningful difference. They give patients more room to rest, space for their support people and a calmer environment while our teams closely monitor the health of both mom and baby.”
