Renown Health to Accept Medicaid at All Urgent Care Locations

Decision to accept patients with Medicaid at all 10 Urgent Care locations will expand access to urgent healthcare for thousands of Nevadans

As of today, Dec. 1, 2024, all 10 Renown Urgent Care locations in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Fernley and Fallon will accept patients with Medicaid, increasing access to urgent but non-life-threatening care for up to 21.2% of Washoe County residents and 766,157 Nevadans who are enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program). Medicaid provides health coverage to eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly adults and people with disabilities.

The announcement comes a year after Renown Medical Group announced the addition of three additional Urgent Care locations accepting Medicaid, bringing the total Medicaid-accepting locations to six in Nov. 2023. Today, Dec. 1, 2024, four additional Renown Urgent Care locations will join the six practices that already accept Medicaid.

“Our decision to accept Medicaid at every Renown Urgent Care practice site reflects our mission as a not-for-profit health system to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone in our community, regardless of their financial circumstances,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President and CEO, Renown Health. “Urgent care often serves as a critical resource during times of immediate need, and by accepting Medicaid at all locations, we will be expanding services for many low-income individuals often overlooked by for-profit medical organizations.”

Medicaid will be accepted at all Renown Urgent Care locations, which can be found at the following addresses (locations underlined are the newest additions of Medicaid-accepting practices):

  • 440 NV-439 #1, USA Parkway
  • 1343 W. Newlands Dr., Fernley
  • 560 E. Williams Ave., Fallon
  • 2814 N. Carson St., Ste 101, Carson City

Renown Urgent Care sees patients 365 days a year and offers both book-ahead appointment scheduling and walk-in availability. All locations can treat conditions that require quick but non-emergent care, including:

  • Cuts and lacerations, including those needing sutures
  • Sprains and closed fractures
  • Ear pain, infections, wax buildup and hearing issues
  • Burns
  • Fevers, coughs, sore throats, cold and flu/COVID
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Animal bites
  • Pinkeye
  • Rashes

Medication-assisted treatment program at Renown’s Stacie Mathewson Institute offers support for this in recovery from addiction The Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute at Renown Health stands with northern Nevada communities on Fentanyl Awareness Day, recognized nationwide on April 29 annually. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. Unlike medical fentanyl, illegally made fentanyl is often made in unsanitary conditions, not carefully dosed or blended and laced in other street drugs, including pills, powders and crystals. Termination of HHS ARPA Funds Leads to Suspension of Services at Renown Crisis Center

After thoughtful consideration and a careful review of current circumstances, services have been suspended at the Renown Crisis Care Center. The Center, which provided short-term, 23-hour behavioral health crisis intervention services was funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant that was recently terminated by Health & Human Services (HHS). Renown leaders are working with representatives on the federal, state, and local level on alternative funding sources with the goal of resuming operations when a sustainable form of funding is identified.
